Definition and Working Principle
Flame-retardant cable: A flame-retardant cable refers to a cable that can extinguish itself after the flame is removed under specified test conditions. Its flame-retardant performance mainly relies on the characteristics of the sheath material, and it is divided into halogen-containing flame-retardant cables and halogen-free flame-retardant cables. Halogen-containing flame-retardant cables rely on the flame-retardant effect of halogens, while halogen-free flame-retardant cables extinguish the fire source by releasing water to lower the temperature.
Fire-resistant cable: A fire-resistant cable can maintain normal operation for a certain period under flame conditions, ensuring that the power system continues to operate in emergencies. Its fire-resistant layer is usually made of multiple layers of mica tape directly wrapped around the conductor, which can maintain the integrity of the circuit at high temperatures.
Structure and Materials
Flame-retardant cable: Its basic structure includes insulation layer, sheath, and outer protective layer, all made of flame-retardant materials. The sheath material of flame-retardant cables can slow down the spread of fire during a fire, but it may not necessarily maintain electrical connectivity during a fire.
Fire-resistant cable: An additional fire-resistant layer is added between the conductor and the insulation layer, usually made of mica material. Usage Scenarios

Fire-resistant cable: Mainly used in high-rise buildings, underground railways, nuclear power plants, and important industrial and mining enterprises that need to maintain power supply. Advantages and Disadvantages
Flame-retardant cable: The advantage is that it has a lower cost and can effectively prevent the spread of fire, reducing fire losses. The disadvantage is that it cannot maintain electrical connectivity during a fire.
Fire-resistant cable: The advantage is that it can maintain power supply during a fire, ensuring the normal operation of the power system in emergencies. The disadvantage is that it is more expensive, and in some cases, flame-retardant cables can be used as a substitute, but flame-retardant cables cannot replace fire-resistant cables.
