Mineral insulated cable: also known as fire-resistant cable or magnesium oxide cable in China, abbreviated as MI cable abroad.

Mineral insulated cables are composed of a high conductivity copper conductor, mineral (magnesium oxide) insulation, and a seamless copper tube sheath as the basic structure. When the cable is used in environments where copper is corrosive, an outer layer of plastic sheath can be added (optional).
The continuous working temperature of the bare cable can reach 250℃, and it can supply power for 3 hours at 950℃~1000℃. In short-term or extreme conditions, it can operate close to the melting point of copper at 1083℃ (the melting point of magnesium oxide is 2800℃).
Main performance: fire resistance. The cable not only cannot burn itself but also will not ignite a fire source. Even in the event of a fire, the cable can still operate normally. Moreover, as long as the flame temperature is below the melting point of copper, after the fire is extinguished, the cable does not need to be replaced and can continue to be used. Replacing the sheath and core wire materials with more fire-resistant options can allow use in oil and gas environments.
